What security provisions do I need to make following the recent stormy weather and Halloween?
With all the inclement weather about recently, now is a timely reminder to ensure that your security systems are properly maintained.
All systems should be backed up by standby batteries. If your alarm activated when the power failed, chances are your alarm system is in need of urgent maintenance. Generally your battery should support the alarm system for minimum 24 hrs without power.
All CCTV recorders should be backed up with Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS). A UPS will keep the recorder alive for a number of hours whilst the power is gone and will ensure that it restarts seamlessly.
At Halloween, this time of the year is traditionally associated with bonfires and this usually means that teenagers will be collecting material for their fires around now. Favourite targets are tyres, pallets and building materials.
You can help prevent this occurring by employing a monitored CCTV system on your site. This means that when there is unwanted activity on your property, the CCTV system will send a 10 second video clip of the trespassers to a licensed monitoring centre who can then either give an audio warning over the public address system, dispatch a mobile patrol, or inform the Gardaí.
Remember, as the evenings close in, to light up, lock up and follow best Garda advice by connecting your alarm or CCTV system to a licensed Alarm Receiving Centre.
