What security provisions do I need to make for my property with Halloween approaching and the weather changing?

Remember as the evenings close in, to light up, lock up and alarm.

Outdoor lights, and a door chain and viewer can help you feel safer in your home on dark evenings. Ensure your doors are locked, never leave a spare key outside, store any garden tools that could assist a burglar in a locked shed, and join your local text alert scheme.

At Halloween, this time of the year is traditionally associated with bonfires and this usually means that some youths will be collecting material for their fires around now. Favourite targets are tyres, pallets and building materials so while some of this might be lying around the back of houses, commercial properties particularly need to be extra vigilant of their sites.

You can help prevent this occurring by employing a monitored CCTV system on your site. This means that when there is unwanted activity on your property, the CCTV system will send a 10 second video clip of the trespassers to a licensed monitoring centre who can then either give an audio warning over the public address system, dispatch a mobile patrol, or inform the Gardaí.

Follow best Garda advice by connecting your alarm or CCTV system to a licensed Alarm Receiving Centre. Alarm monitoring can cost as little as €0.50c per day.
